Trial Advocacy

Barrister's Wig

“Advocacy is the art of persuasion" said Gilbert Gray QC, one of the UK's leading advocates who was called to the Bar in 1953. "But it is also a craft. As in music, there are rules without which discord follows.”

On this course delegates learn how analyse a case and present it in a simple and persuasive way. They learn to ask effective and skilful questions in chief (direct examination) and cross-examination, as well as how to make opening and closing speeches and statements.

We recommend that this course is run over two days. The first day is spent learning trial advocacy skills. On the second day a mock trial will be held. If requested, the trial can be conducted before a retired High Court or District judge.

Those who attend this course will learn new skills, practise old ones and gain in that most intangible of things: confidence.

What the delegates say

“I am delighted to say that CPD Training’s advocacy course has given me renewed enthusiasm and confidence in this area.

“The subject matter proved to be challenging yet enjoyable and certainly helped demystify what is regarded as a black art, which can so often prove to be barrier to undertaking advocacy with any degree of success. I would recommend the advocacy training to anyone who needs this skill.”
