Team Member: Tony Lawton

 

Tony Lawton has been managing law firms for nearly 25 years. He is now practising in the areas of Professional Negligence and Risk Management but for a considerable amount of his career he has been a personal injury and employment lawyer..

 

Tony first became a partner with Robin Thompson and Partners in London in 1975. He helped to set up their Birmingham branch then in 1977 went to Rowley and Blewitts where he stayed for over 8 years as an equity partner.

 

His practice concentrated on Trade Union clients but he spent a lot of time managing staff and marketing the firm’s services.

 

He returned to Thompsons in 1986 where was appointed as a partner and assisted in the management of their Birmingham office. He was responsible for recruitment, supervision and the financial management of the office. He also appeared regularly for clients in employment tribunals.

 

In 1991, Tony set up the Stoke branch of Thompsons before returning to Birmingham to manage over 25 fee-earners and 30 support staff. The branch was run successfully by Tony Lawton for 7 years.

 

In 1999, he was asked to manage the firm’s Newcastle practice and stayed for 2 years. In that time he managed 70 people and organised a substantial move of office premises.

 

He became the Regional Managing Director for London and the South East in 2001, where he was responsible for 150 people.

 

He was appointed National Case Management partner in 1996 and held that post for 4 years. His duties were the implementation of safe systems for limitation; case reviews; file audits and the case supervision of staff.
