Neil Mapes presents courses for CPD Training on the subject of Representing the Older Client. This is becoming an area of great interest for legal practitioners.
Neil is a 2010 Clore Social Fellow and specialist dementia care trainer with a background in psychology and a particular interest in the way people relate to older members of the community.
From 2006 to 2009 he was the Co-Ordinator of the Mental Capacity Advocacy Project, an innovate volunteer advocacy project at Age Concern and Help The Aged. While there he played an important role in commissioning research by the RIX Centre into the social exclusion of older people who lack mental capacity. He led a team of colleagues from Age Concern to found a City and Guilds qualification aimed at professionals who wish to work with older people.
Between 1994 and 1997 Neil was an Assistant Psychologist at Clinical Psychology in Rugby, where he treated and assisted older people with a wide range of mental heath problems.
For five years Neil worked as a Dementia Advocate at Alzheimer’s Concern in Ealing.
He has provided dementia care training in a variety of settings and speaks regularly at national conferences. He has appeared on radio and also writes widely on dementia, mental capacity and health advocacy.
