Glenda Fontaine

Glenda Fontaine is probably the most experienced assessor of Higher Rights of Audience in the UK. For over 25 years, she has delivered a range of advocacy and academic courses to Bar students, trainee and qualified solicitors, local authorities, private individuals and prosecuting authorities.

Glenda was called to the Bar in 1985. She was a pupil and tenant at 2 Crown Office Row, Temple. She later moved to 11 South Square, Gray’s Inn, where her practice included representation in all tribunals and courts of law.. Her particular areas of practice included employment, crime, personal injury and family law.

Glenda has been teaching and assessing civil and criminal Higher Rights since 2001. She has presented courses at Freshfields, Clifford Chance, White & Case, Allen & Overy, Slaughter and May, CMS, Herbert Smith Freehills, the Crown Prosecution Service as well as at local authorities.

Glenda was the Chief Assessor in Higher Rights Part 2 practical examinations at the College (later University) of Law from 2010 to 2025. During that time, she assessed thousands of candidates.

As well as Higher Rights, Glenda has been teaching professional skills courses such as advocacy and communication, Magistrates’ Trial Practice and trainee litigation skills since 2001.

She worked for some time as a Senior Lecturer in Law at BPP Law School and an editor and presenter at Legal Network Television in London.

Glenda has also taught and assessed many patent attorneys in advocacy skills on the Basic Litigation Skills Course over the last 10 years.
